Why is Everyone Leaving the City? Interview with Tobias Ammon
Dmitry Yagodin   Archive
Mr. Ammon heads the Radisson Blu Bosphorus Hotel, Istanbul, which we visited. He`s European, originally from Germany.

- Tobias, have you been in Istanbul for long?

It`s been over 5 years, Dmitry. Istanbul is a big business city. It`s a fantastic city. The air here is clean, and the climate is pleasant (unlike my native Germany).

However, living here is worth it on the coast, if we talk about a permanent basis. In the absence of special circumstances.

- Why such a recommendation?

The city itself is beautiful from many angles. But it`s good to spend 2-3 days here, a week or two.

If your company is not tied to Istanbul, go to the Mediterranean coast. There`s no such intensity of traffic. Prices are lower, and the food is tastier and healthier.

- Did you take long to adapt to Istanbul after Germany?

Of course, there was a transitional period. From a health perspective, the good climate always supported me.

I remember my first winter in Russia. St. Petersburg, -28 degrees. My daughter was born. That was really tough.

- Recommendations for those moving here?

Learn the culture and peculiarities of the local mentality. Build relationships with the Turks.

Eat fresh fruits and vegetables.
